Laugh and let the world laugh with you. “These days, people worry a lot and completely forgot about laughing. Laughing daily for a while helps in better mental stability,” he said.

Did you heard about Laughter Yoga? It helps in boosting oxygen levels in the body, especially the brain. For the perfect brain exercise, Dr Madan Kataria, physician and founder of Laughter Club International, addressed a seminar on ‘Laughter Yoga’ organised by Dr DG Melkote Park Walkers in association with Laughter Yoga at Melkote Park in Narayanaguda on Sunday.

“These days, people worry a lot and completely forgot about laughing. Laughing daily for a while helps in better mental stability,” he said. ‘Laughter Guru’ Dr Madan shared some exercises with the public of which the foremost was ‘Laughing without a reason’. It is a simple exercise where a person needs to chant ‘HO, HA, HO, HA’ in a group by stretching their hands up and looking at each other.

“The sounds 'HO-HO’ and ‘HA-HA’ are important in a yogic exercise called ‘Kapalbhati’,” Dr Madan explained. He also taught people different types of exercises like Silent Laughter with the mouth wide open; Lion Laugh with the tongue out; Hanuman Laugh-- killing Ravan with a laughter bullet; Talking to God; Ego Blast; Drinking Hot Coffee, etc.

Madan started his first Laughter Yoga club in Mumbai in 1995, with five people in a local public park. Later he spread this concept worldwide which now has more than 5,000 branches in 60 countries. In this, each club has one laughter captain who operates independently.

He had also written a book in 2002 which was titled ‘Laugh for No Reason’. “We are planning to include Laughter Yoga lessons under the CBSE syllabus. In some schools in Bengaluru, we have started special Laughter Yoga classes for children,” concluded Dr Madan.
