The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has awarded its prestigious Wi-Fi project to Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL). Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) is the first to get Wi-Fi connectivity in the city.

Speaking to The Hans India, Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian said, The first phase of the Wi-Fi project will cover areas from Benz Circle to Raghavaiah Park on Mahatma Gandhi Road, which includes the Chief Minister’s camp office and the collector’s camp office.

After a preliminary survey, it has been decided to set up 40 alignment points on MG Road for Wi-Fi connectivity. A cable connection will also be laid to make the VMC head office Wi-Fi enabled as part of the project.''

The Wi-Fi project envisages an Internet speed ranging from 2 Mbps to 40 Mbps depending on the usage. People can avail themselves of 4G services, once the Wi-Fi project is commissioned.

We are planning to make the entire Vijayawada city Wi-Fi enabled. After MG Road, the Wi-Fi project will be taken up in areas adjacent to Karl Marx Road. Other prime areas in the city will be covered in a phased manner. It is likely to take a few months to complete the Wi-Fi project,’’ the Commissioner said.
