Denizens received a rare opportunity to see the weapons and equipment used by the Army and Air Force for combat operations, at the day-long exhibition at the Army Parade Grounds, Secunderabad, on Friday. The Military Band of EME Centre performed for the gathering later in the evening.


The exhibition, which was organised on the eve of the 68th Independence Day, attracted people in large numbers including about 10,000 school children. Various weapons and equipment viz., artillery guns, infantry combat vehicle and small arms, armed ambulance vehicle and the MOD Innovation BPM 1 vehicle, 84 MM-Rocket Launcher, 7.62 MM-MMC Automatic Green L.R 17, 8I MM- MOR, night vision binoculars and the Indo-Pak war 1965 battle pictures were showcased.


Stalls for motivating and spreading awareness among youth to join army were displayed with notifications of recruitment and eligibility criteria for the benefit of the youth.


Showstoppers!

The highlight of the show was Tanker T-72 MI Ajai (Russia) with maximum range 10 km, weighing 45 tons. Loaded with 44 shells, it has the power to destroy the targeted area up to a circumference of 200 m. This was used against Pakistan in Bangladesh war of 1971. It costs approximately 6 crore.


The other highlight was 130 MM-Gun M-46 (Field Gun of Soviet Union) with a firing range of 27 km (unassisted) 38 km (assisted),weighing 8450 kg; with the power to launch fireball flames with high density.
