Every year on Independence Day, the nation takes an oath for a better India. With pollution increasing day-by-day, the youth is moving towards a healthier and greener environment. To accomplish this mission, The Atlanta Foundation (ATF) hosted the seventh edition of Freedom Ride 2015 on Independence Day on Saturday, in Madhapur.
More than 5,000 cycling enthusiasts from various corporate enterprises participated in the event, including 76-year old auto driver Mohd Haneef. Ride segments included Signature Ride (68 km) to mark India’s 68 years of freedom; Joy Ride (5 km) for families with kids and a Relay Ride for corporates.
“I rode bicycle for 10 km, 67 km and 100 km too,” announced Mohd Haneef, resident of Banjara Hills. “I participate because cycling is good for health,” he said. TAF introduced Malli Mastan Babu Trophy this year in honour of the world’s fastest seven summiteer, for the winner of Signature Ride.
Deenanath Harapanahalli, Founder and CEO of TAF, informed that a total of Rs 68,000 worth prizes were given away to winners and participants. While the event promoted cycling, it also raised funds towards the social causes of their charity partner, United Way of Hyderabad, which aims at educating underprivileged students, promotes eco-friendly commute options and promotes cycling as a health and wellness sport.
Children of five schools—Siddiquenagar School, Anjaiah nagar School, Gachibowli Primary and High School and CNN Tanda School, which The Atlata Foundation has adopted, joined in hoisting the national flag at the event.
