The Andhra Pradesh government is planning to introduce foreign languages teaching in universities from the next academic year. The Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who had a detailed review with the Minister for Human Resources, Ganta Srinivasa Rao, last week; took the decision as part of the reforms proposed by the govt.

The initiative is aimed at making universities as centres of excellence. Keeping in view the huge flow of investment from Japan to Amaravati, the new capital, Japanese would be introduced in all the universities. In addition, the govt. plans to have an exclusive foreign language department in every university.

As part of the reforms to prevent ragging, the govt. had instructed all the universities to install closed circuit (CC) cameras on campus and in hostels, to monitor the movements of the students, besides biometric system for attendance and identification (ID) cards.
