An initiative for awareness

Schoolgirls at SKSRMC High School had an awareness session organised by the Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM), at the school, on Monday. Issues like child marriages, child labour and other girl students’ problems were discussed at the programme titled ‘Dignity for Women and Girls’.

Project Manager Revathi, while addressing the students, said that child marriages are against the law and called out to the students to educate their parents, neighbours and friends on the consequences of marrying at a younger age. She asked them to act immediately and complain against any incidents in their notice.

Principal R Mrunmai said that the state and central government are promoting various schemes for preserving adolescents’ from slavery and work. “It is very important to have sessions on social rights and behaviour,” she opined. Faculty of the school coordinated the programme in which students of classes 9thand 10th were present.
