The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is reaching out to Residential Welfare Associations (RWAs) for the successful implementation of solid waste management. The corporation is planning to distribute dustbins to households in the next 40 days. Presently, there are 3,000 RWAs in the GHMC jurisdiction but not all have registered with the corporation.

A senior official said that the success of the waste disposal mechanism rests on the active participation of RWAs. Apart from meeting the RWA secretaries, the GHMC would also be providing identity cards, added the official. In the coming days, 2,500 auto tippers and 44 lakh garbage bins would be provided to societies, informed a senior official.

A special drive to make RWAs register with the GHMC is being planned and a separate call centre would be set up to receive complaints pertaining to sanitation issues said an officer.
