Until recently, joint replacement has always been a matter of concern for patients suffering from osteoarthritis. So far despite replacements of the worn out knee joints by artificial implants, the patients in most cases have not been able to resort to their natural ability to undertake simple day to day chores like sitting on the floor, climbing stairs or squatting with ease.

A new and revolutionary joint replacement system is presently available for patients who have been suffering from advanced stages of osteoarthritis and require a joint replacement procedure. One of the key benefits of this system is that it can be customised to suit individual body types based on their physical dimensions.

Dr Neelam Ramana Reddy, chief joint replacement surgeon, Star Hospital, says, "This orthopaedic implant technology has evolved due to continuous research to a great extent ensuring greater stability, smooth transition during gait and extended longevity of the implant.” There has been one major challenge that all the surgeons faced, which is the limitation in implant sizes.

However, this custom fit knee system offers the surgeon more size options by giving them a chance to choose the size of the implant as per the size of the patient rather than planning the surgery based on the pre existing sizes available in traditional implants. This enables a greater natural mobility and recovery in patients who have opted for this new system.
