The romantic love affair traced has now been converted into a documentary and is set to be aired on BBC on September 3. The film depicts the compelling story of seduction and betrayal; Kirkpatrick, who was a resident at the Hyderabad court, risked everything, converted to Islam, even became a double agent, to marry his love.

History buffs are in for a revelling treat as Dalrymple tells the story of the Kirkpatricks and their children, who were sent back to England and absorbed into Victorian society, through the art and architecture of the time. The hour long documentary will be telecast on September 3, on BBC Four.
