Drums, dance & drama. Burrakatha, Dappu Nrityam, Oggu Katha, Pagati Veshalu and many other folk forums brought a rich tribal flavour at the World Folk Day celebrations, at Tummalapalli Kshetrayya Kalakshetram, on Saturday.

Burrakatha, Dappu Nrityam, Oggu Katha, Pagati Veshalu and many other folk forums brought a rich tribal flavour at the World Folk Day celebrations, at Tummalapalli Kshetrayya Kalakshetram, on Saturday.

The celebrations, which were organised by Department of Language and Culture and Andhra Pradesh Folk Artistes Association, saw the participation of folk artistes from Guntur, Srikakulam, East Godavari, Krishna and other districts.

Telugu Janapada Kala Samithi also celebrated the event, at Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Music and Dance College. As a part of this celebration the folk artistes’ team of Komaripati Verreyya from Anantavaram presented Kanaka Tappetlu and Veranatyam items.

Artistes of Ramachandrapuram performed Kommulu, Jamukulu folk songs. Minister of Information and Culture, Palle Raghunatha Reddy, said that the tradition and culture of Andhra Pradesh should be protected and he confirmed that these traditional folk forums will be preserved for the benefit of future generations.
