History
Former corporator of Yousufguda (1986-91), V Laxminarasaigh Goud (65) said, “It was a place of hut dwellers in 1970, and the entire area was an agricultural land with a lake (now Krishnakant Park). The entire area is low lying and during the monsoon the entire fields are washed away due to downstream of water from Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills up.
The development was started during 1980s in a phased manner, and fields were converted into plots. Now, it has turned to a busy centre with a mix of poor, weaker sections and high elite people.” Yousufguda is reported to be named after the Yousuf, who was then Jagirdhar of the area during the Nizam rule. Rehamatnagar, a popular basthi, was named after Rehamat Ali, who was MLA of Khairatabad in 1972.
Problems
V Laxminarasiagh Goud and other locals said that the major problem is flooding of rainwater in the basthis leading to submerged roads, which jam drain channels. Water overflows in houses leading loss of property and belongings. In addition, the GHMC is not cleaning garbage on a day-to-day basis and piling up.
This is increasing mosquito menace, presenting a threat to health and sanity of residents. Narrow roads at Rehamatnagar cause incessant traffic jams leading to accidents.
