About 10,500 structures adjacent to Mahatma Gandhi Road in the city are set to get digital house numbers by next week as part of the Smart Address Code initiative by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC). The project was launched on a pilot basis in division No 13, 17, 18 and 21 on April 2, which were identified as Smart Wards.
The VMC assigned the project to Zippr Private Limited, Hyderabad.Speaking to The Hans India, Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian said the VMC took up the project as part of its efforts to transform Vijayawada into a Smart City. As part of the project, Zippr representatives conducted a survey and collected Aadhaar, PAN, voter identification card, ration card, electricity service, LPG connection numbers and other information of house owners in the four divisions.
As of now, geo-tracking and data processing of the project have been completed. The Zippr application contains an eight-digit alphanumeric code (Smart Address Code). The first four digits in the code are English letterts and the rest being numbers. The unique codes will be synchronised with a mobile application to facilitate easy location of a house address.
Once the user enters the unique code, the application zeroes in on the location of a house. Buoyed by the success of the pilot project, we have decided to extend it to all other divisions in the city in a phased manner. The VMC will invite Request for Proposals (RFPs) in the next two months to take up the project in other divisions.
The digital house numbers make location of a house address easy in densely populated areas. It will also help ensure effective enforcement of the town planning rules to curb haphazard growth,’’ the Municipal Commissioner added.
