Hyderabad has always been considered the city where one can see many antique collectors from across the country visiting the place to add more pieces to their collection. But, little do they know that the products are sold may not be authentic.

Visitors and the collectors have been cheated multiple times by shopkeepers who sells antique pieces claiming them to be decades old. Chote Bhai, a shop owner in Old City said, “There are no antiques here. There are no products that are older than ten to thirty years. All the shops here are cheating customers saying that the products are available that are 100 years old.”

Sarath Namburi, antique collector from Bengaluru says that he has a 200-year old piece, which he had bought from Hyderabad. When a shop owner of one of the reputed antiques shop was asked about the availability of the antiques that could be 200 years old, he denied the availability of such pieces.

I addition, he said that all the products present in Old City are replicas that have been made in China. He also said that authentic antiques are available at Lepakshi, in Basheerbagh.
