At 13, Pullemla Sai Praneeth is gradually giving glimpses of his talent on the rink. Right now he is fresh from a heart-warming fifth position in the recently held Asian roller-skating championship. For one who took to the sport at the tender age of five, watching some trainees learning the nuances near his house, Praneeth has been pocketing an impressive medal haul.

Of the 11 gold medals he has won till date, four have been in the State-level championship. “I am very happy with the progress I am making since going under the tutelage of the Yama brothers in Marredpally. This year holds special significance because my mentor, Anup Kumar Yama Sir, has been bestowed the coveted Arjuna Award for excellence in skating,” points out the youngster, who is in the ninth standard at Indus Universal School in Yapral.

Tracing his baptism into the sport, the youngster points out that he was a student of St Andrews School where he was introduced to the sport at the behest of his parents, Ravinder Kumar and Anupama. “I started speed skating when I was five years old. After learning the basics in the next five years, I switched over to artistic roller-skating, like my guru.

I am happy that the decision is yielding encouraging results,” points out Praneeth, who has won seven gold medals at the district and four in State-level championships. This is in addition to a sizeable number of silver and bronze finishes.
Sai Praneeth feels that his exposure in the Asian open figure-skating trophy held in Bangkok where he finished at an enviable fifth place in basic novice B boys category as “A learning experience that will hold me in good stead as I chase my future dreams against more formidable challengers.”
Anup also nurtures high hopes on Praneeth, as “He is naturally gifted and can go the distance provided he hones artistic skills with purposeful determination and dexterity.” Meanwhile, the rink is not the only place where Praneeth is proving to be a bundle of talent. Apart from being good in his academics there is another versatile side to the child-prodigy.

Together with his elder brother Sai Pranav, an Intermediate second year student, Praneeth is a Limca Book record holder for mastering the Rubik Cube! That is some talent, one must say.
