Alleging that the irresponsible act has resulted in increased exposure to mosquito menace, obnoxious smell and diseases like flu and dengue; residents submitted a memorandum to Malkajgiri MP Ch Malla Reddy, to take up the issue with Ministry of Defence (MOD) in the interest of the wellbeing of local residents.

Malla Reddy said that the matter will be taken up with the MOD to solve health related issues of the colony people. In addition, he appealed to the residents to cooperate till the issue is solved.

Malkajgiri MLA Kanaka Reddy said that SCB authorities are not taking care of the health issues of residents near the trenching yard, and that representations and letters addressed to the SCB authorities, were ignored.

“If SCB do not sop garbage dumping, we will take up agitation against the SCB till their persistent issue is solved,” he said. Commenting on the issue, Cantonment Board MLA G Sayanna said that the matter can be sorted out by conducting meeting with the GHMC and other concerned authorities.

KL Rao, Chandramouli, Dayanand, presidents and other office bearers of the nearby colonies said, “We are suffering for the past few years due to the dumping of the garbage by the SCB authorities.

And, now they want to establish sewerage cleaning plants and other garbage units to make them compose under the waste use management. We request the SCB authorities to not to dump garbage so that we can live peacefully. Otherwise, we are forced to sell our houses at throwaway prices to save our lives.”

A spokesperson from SCB said, “We are dumping garbage in our own trenching area instead of Jawaharnagar area, which is proving costly for us in paying charges every month to the GHMC. However, we will take the required precautions for ensuring the healthy and safety environment to the neighbouring colonies.”
