Limca Record beckons Samasthi International School

Samashti International School, situated in the city outskirts at Kollur village, is set to achieve a major milestone that effectively will boost its already envious status by several notches.

For an institution that offers CBSE till the ninth grade presently, Samasthi is taking its avowed commitment to groom students with its thrust on overall personality development, to the next step with the conduct of a one-of-a-kind cricket tournament. Once that is accomplished, the school will bid for the Limca Book of Records as the first such conceptualisation in the country.

According to Swetha Manthena, Managing Director of the school, things were looking rosy since the time they tied up with the well-known Australian firm, Sportspro International, which has proved its resourcefulness in Indian metros like Mumbai. Promoted by Dean Gilchrist, the collaboration is to fructify in the form of ‘Samashti Cubs Cricket League 2015’, which they will be hosting in the first week of October.

‘What makes the 16-team league-cum-knockout event unique is that it will be for boys and girls in the four to six years age-group. The matches will be played on a six-over basis. Each team comprises of seven registered players. It has been mandated that each should have at least one girl in the playing team.

Sportspro approved equipment, which will be shipped from Australia/Mumbai, is being manufactured specifically for the event and modified to be light-weight and made of soft materials. At the end of the day, the children ought to enjoy the game even as they develop the competitive spirit and develop a positive mindset,’ she explained.

To make the championship more participatory, entries have been made open to corporate professionals, who are bringing in their children, as also teams from gated communities situated within the vicinity. Incidentally, there is no entry fee except for a meagre amount charged for supply of a colourful dress code as a means to ring in an excitingly colourful uniformity.

Apart from rewarding the winning and runner-up teams, top-grade individual performers will also be honoured for their exploits. The school is looking at the Limca Book of Records for knitting the country’s first league tournament exclusively for children in the four to six years of age.
