“The government is giving paramount importance towards the development of Guntur due to its close proximity to the capital region. For this reason the city must be clean and hygienic,” said P Narayana, Minister for Municipal Administration while he visited several slums and residential colonies on Sunday.

During his visit to the colonies he urged people to cooperate with the government in building toilets for every household. “Every house must have individual latrine,” he said. Responding to people's plea for house sites and pattas, he assured that every issue would be addressed. The minister said that by October 2, the construction of latrines must be completed in all slums in Guntur.

He revealed that 21 teams have been formed with officials representing multiple departments for touring the state and completing the Swachh Bharath programme by December in all the 110 municipalities in the state. A survey is under progress in all the civic bodies to study requirement and complete the project by December 2015.

Local MLA Modugula Venugopala Reddy, director of municipalities K Kanna Babu, municipal commissioner C Anuradha and regional director of municipalities Karanam Venkateshwarlu, RDO Bhaskar Naidu and Green Corporation MD Chandra Mohan accompanied the minister.
