The atmosphere was compelling. The music, serene and the lights, dim. It was a night to remember! Bengaluru based classical fusion music band, ‘Mystik Vibes’ performed live at Houz of Blues, on Saturday. Four wonderful musicians brought cultural and contemporary jazz notes to fore with their performance that entranced the audience.

The cross-cultural band based in south India is a musical collaboration among Hindustani table player Muthu Kumar, Carnatic flautist Amith Nadig, Jazz keyboard artiste Aman Mahajan and French electric bass player Mishko M’ba who perform globally.

Sharing their story, band members say, “The band was named so, after an audience member, from an early concert, commented on the mystic feel of one particular song. Jazz culture is fast growing in India. Opining on the same, they say, “At the moment there are many young talented musicians who have arrived on the jazz scene in India.

It is a very good thing because they have good knowledge, having been for many years in a music school. The audience in India is often composed of people who are music lovers, with a good knowledge of music too.”

As they prepare to wrap up, they add, “Numerous venues are opening, especially in Bengaluru and Delhi. There are a lot of places to perform. The audience these days likes to see live music. Having said that, quality of concert should not be compromised. It needs to be improved and as musicians we have to give our best.”
