Students turn innovators at Inspire science expo-2015. The three-day exhibition of science models prepared by students of various schools under Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) awards of the Department of Science and Technology was formally inaugurated by Minister for Irrigation Devineni Umamaheswara Rao at Don Bosco High School on the outskirts of the city on Monday.

Speaking after inaugurating the expo, Umamaheswara Rao underlined the need for creating stimulation, rather than excitement, among students about science. He said that more attention should be taken by the teachers to inculcate spirit of scientific enquiry among students while framing the curriculum.

“Students should not become mere carriers of information and gatherers of knowledge. They should become innovators by applying their knowledge,” he said. MLC AS Ramakrishna called upon teachers to kindle interest in basic science among students.

He said that every teacher has to feed valuable information into the minds of children and nurture the scientific temper within them to help the country’s scientific and technological development.

Krishna District Education Officer (DEO) K Nageswara Rao, MLC Buddha Venkanna, Principal Secretary of School Education Ram Prakash Sisodia, Don Bosco High School principal T Michel Reddy and others were also present at the inaugural ceremony.
