With an aim to promote sustainable technologies, opportunities and entrepreneurship development in dairy industry, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in association with the Andhra Pradesh Technology Development and Promotion Centre (APTDC), organised `Dairybiz India 2015’ on Friday for budding entrepreneurs and dairy farmers.
Speaking at the inaugural session of Dairybiz, Dr RK Malik, Joint director of Research, ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, said, “There is a dire need to improve the prospects of dairy farming in the country to achieve the milk products export target for 2020.
Andhra Pradesh has immense potential for dairy development to be on top along with Punjab and Haryana in the country.’’ Ponnur MLA Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar, who is also the chairman of Sangam Dairy, underlined the need to promote dairy farming in a big way in the state to boost milk production.
“The young generation should be encouraged to take up dairy farming by providing them adequate support and incentives as they are reluctant to venture into the business. An awareness should also be created among small and marginal farmers about the benefits of dairy farming to enable them to take up milch cattle rearing as a full time occupation rather than an ancillary activity,’’ he said.
Technical sessions on ‘Increasing production through increasing productivity’, ‘Dairy processing and quality management’, ‘Emerging demand and supply scenario in dairy industry’ and ‘Dairy entrepreneurship, business opportunities, innovations and success stories’ were held at Dairybiz. It also covered several other ancillary topics related to various aspects of dairy farming.
CII Vijayawada Vice-Chairman and KCP Sugar and Industries Corporation COO G Venkateswara Rao, AP Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Limited Deputy Director Irfan Saleem, SBI Deputy General Manager Rajiv Kohli, YES Bank Food and Agribusiness Strategic Advisory and Research Executive Vice-President Gopinath Koneti and others were also present.
