Kerala Club Vijayawada celebrated Onam with gaiety and pomp at Siddhartha Auditorium on Sunday. Festive fervour pervaded Siddhartha Auditorium as Keralites in the city and its suburbs participated in Pookalam, Onam Sadya and other Onam events with great enthusiasm.

A variety of cultural programmes were presented. All the participants enjoyed the traditional delicacies served on the occasion. Club president R Thulasidharan said, “There are around 10,000 Malayalee families in and around Vijayawada.

All of them do not get an opportunity to visit their native places in Kerala to celebrate the festival with their family members, relatives and friends. We organised Onam in the city, though belatedly, to enable the Malayalee fraternity who made Vijayawada their second home, to come together and participate in festivities.

Pulikali, Athachamayam, Thumbi Thullal, Kazhchakkula, Onapottan, Pookalam, Onathappan, Onavillu, Theyyam, Kathakali, Onam Sadya and all other traditions associated with the harvesting festival of Kerala, are observed here as part of the annual Onam celebrations.’’

The club presented awards to the SSC toppers from the Malayalee fraternity as an incentive. Narsapur MP Gokaraju Ganga Raju, Krishna District Collector Babu A, Fr Aby K Raju of St George Orthodox Church and others participated.
