FIDE rating chess tourney in city from September 24. Tummalapalli Chess Academy, affiliated to the Andhra Pradesh Chess Association (APCA), will organise an All India FIDE Rating Chess Tournament at the Krishna Industrial and Agricultural Exhibition Society Hall in Auto Nagar from September 24 to 27.

APCA general secretary D Sri Hari on Wednesday said the chess tournament was aimed to unearth and encourage young talent in the State. The tournament will be held for boys and girls of different age groups. About 300 players from various parts of the State will participate in it. A total of 44 cash prizes worth Rs 1.5 lakh and 27 trophies will be presented to winners.

The entry fee is Rs 1,500. Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and Sports Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu will participate in the inaugural ceremony, he said. Chess Academy secretary T Srinivas Rao, members K Suresh and K Harshavardhan were also present at the news conference.
