Students participating in an eco-friendly Ganesh idol making competition at Sri Durga Malleswara Siddhartha Mahila KalasalaVijayawada: The educational institutions in the city took an extra step to contribute to the environment by distributing Eco-friendly Ganesh idols to the public for free. The day before the festival was bustling in the city with free clay and mud made idols being given away at almost every important junction, across.

To keep the water bodies free from pollution and affects caused due to the non- dissolvable POP and the colors used to create the massive structure resembling a theme of idols, several institutions and social organizations have come forward in donating the free idols for public to have a eco friendly celebration at houses.

The Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala has made sure that their students are involved in clay modeling work and organized a competition among the students to encourage them pursue clay idols of Lord Ganesh. Later, they gave away the idols to public. Likewise, the management of Nalanda Vidyanikethan also gave away Ganesh idols to public who stopped by their School and to the parents.

The students learnt to make the clay idols from the mold and exhibited their skills in decorating the idol with flowers, leaves and fruits. A mini pooja was organized by the students on the occasion. Prizes were also distributed to the winners.

At the expo organized by the primary students and management of Nalanda School, there are hundreds of Ganesh idols in numerous sizes which were all carved out of vegetables, fruits, and made out of waste materials that could be recycled. A huge statue of the idol made out of bottle guard, coconuts, all grain idol, craft clay, roti dough and other varieties was what caught all eyes.

About 1000 idols made out of mud were given away to the parents, teachers and neighbors of the school building on the occasion. ‘’There are many idols which are looking so stunning though made out of kitchen products and waste materials. Everything is made out of an effort and deserves appreciation. A few prizes close to 20 would be given away to the better idols that are made by our children’s’ parents’’, said the principal Madala Padmaja.
