UoH faculty nominated to National Commission on Education for UNESCO
Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, faculty at the Department of English, UoH and the present Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Orissa has been nominated as a member for Commission on Education for UNESCO by the President of India as per the Office memorandum received from the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Govt of India. The tenure of the membership is for four years.
Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, faculty at the Department of English, UoH and the present Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Orissa has been nominated as a member for Commission on Education for UNESCO by the President of India as per the Office memorandum received from the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Govt of India. The tenure of the membership is for four years.
The Commission on Education, part of Indian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO, was setup in 1949 by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Education. The functions of the Commission is to promote understanding the objects and purposes of UNESCO among the Republic of India, to serve as liaison agency between the Govt.
of India and the institutions concerned with the working for the advancement of education, science and culture, to cooperate with the Government departments and with services organisations and institutions concerned with questions within UNESCO’s competence, to encourage participation of national, governmental and non-governmental institutions and various individuals in the formulations and execution of UNESCO programmes, to collaborate with the National Commission of Asia and the Pacific, to disseminate information on the objectives, programme and activities of the UNESCO and to advise the Government of India on matter relating to UNESCO.
Prof. Mohanty, a distinguished academician, has been nominated to the Commission on Education as an individual member with other notable educationist of India. Other institutional members include Chairman, UGC; Chairman, AICTE, Secretary General, AIU; Director, NCERT; Chairman, NCTE; Chairperson, NBA; Director, NAAC; Chairperson, CBSE and other eminent academicians.
Mohanty is also the recipient of several national and international awards including those from the British Council, the Salzburg, the Katha and the Fulbright. He has to his credit 26 books in English and in Odia.Prof Mohanty’s essays and articles have appeared in some of the leading journals and forums in the country and elsewhere.
He has lectured at a number of leading Universities in India and abroad including Cornell University, Pittsburgh University, the City University of New York, California State University, University of New Mexico at Taos, Loyola University at Chicago and Australia National University, Canberra.
