Conference for better networking among Catholics. What started as a brainchild of likeminded individuals along with the Laity commission, the curtain went up for the Catholic Laity Association (Class) of the archdiocese of Hyderabad, at the second edition of the Laity conference at Moksh, Necklace Road on Sunday.

The conference was inaugurated by Thumma Bala, ArchBishop of the city in presence of Gerald John Mathias, Bishop of Lucknow and the chairman, CCBI Commission for Laity. Around 200 participants comprising of top professionals from streams like education, health, information technology, communications, journalism, public services and businessmen attended the conference.
Bishop Thumma Bala lauded the efforts of Laity for keeping up the promises that the members had taken in the previous conference held in March earlier. The conference began with a talk by Dr Julius Vaz, Sr Vice President of Class, in which he spoke about the vision and focus areas of the assocation.
It was followed by Michael Peria’s talk, Vice President, Class, who gave inputs on the role of Laity in the Catholic Church. Participants brainstormed and listed areas and activities that need to be attended to uplift the Catholic community in Hyderabad.
They urged the clergy to work along with the commission and improve the spiritual, educational, economical conditions of the people. T Vijaypal Reddy, Vice President (Education), Class, stressed on the importance of education and initiatives to be taken to ensure that it reaches everyone.
Among the dignitaries was also MLA Elvis Stephenson, who assured every support from the TRS government towards the initiatives and endeavours of Laity. Speaking on the networking for Laity, Leonard Prakash, EC, mentioned enabling of goods cultivated in rural areas to be made available in urban areas.
“By stimulating communication among all the members, we can help one another by sharing our business, thereby helping each other,” he said. Later, Bishop Gerald presided over the Eucharistic celebrations and delivered the keynote address.
