Urinary incontinence, often considered a problem of old age is catching the young generation especially women. Despite progressive and effective treatments, people are still hesitant to talk about urinary issues, such as urgency, frequency and associated leakage. Many patients who suffer from an overactive bladder go a long way to cover up their sometimes embarrassing condition.

Hyderabad based urologist from Kamineni Hospitals, Dr G Srinivas, inform that lifestyle disorders like obesity, smoking, diabetes and urinary tract infections are some of the causes for the rising problem.

"Patients will do a lot of things to manage their incontinence. If they have a daily routine, they stick close to a bathroom. If they are traveling, they map out bathrooms,” he says.

Dr A Suri Babu, Urologist, Yashoda Hospital, Hyderabad says, “Women who urinate eight or more times a day or more than two times at night with or without urine leakage are part of this group. Women are often either embarrassed and hold an incorrect assumption that it’s a natural part of aging, or just hope the problem will go away on its own.”

Women need to know that there are many promising drugs and treatment options available to help them regain control over their bladder, and their lives. The prevalence of OAB increases with age and in women it increases with increasing body mass index (BMI).

Overactive bladder is a condition where patients experience urgent sensation in passing urine, frequent urination, and may leak urine before they are able to reach the bathroom.
