Following the success of ‘Car Free Thursday’, an initiative of HYSEA (Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association’, the Public Transport Department (RTC) has joined hands with the organisers to sustain the initiative at the ‘World Car Free Day’ on Tuesday.
Following the success of ‘Car Free Thursday’, an initiative of HYSEA (Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association’, the Public Transport Department (RTC) has joined hands with the organisers to sustain the initiative at the ‘World Car Free Day’ on Tuesday.
The department has come up with a ‘contract-to-hire’ buses package for the companies, which engage private buses to transport employees.
IT Industry leaders pledged their support for the campaign including M Narshimha Rao (Narry), SVP, and Centre Head, Infosys, Hyderabad, Srikanth Srinivasan, Regional Director, NASSCOM, Bharani K Aroll, VP, Butler America, Vijay Rangineni, CEO, Tech Mahindra BPO, Murali Bollu,
CEO, ZenQ, Kedarnath Udiyavar, Partner and Chief Client Officer, Polaris Consulting & Services, Amarnath Reddy, CRO, ITE&C Department, Govt of Telangana, Sandeep Joshi, Location Head, FMG, Wipro, Hari Subramaniyam, CEO, Colruyt, and representatives of Zensar, Excent, Microsoft,TCS, Ascendas, Steelwedge and IBM.
HYSEA is planning to observe the day in Cyberabad in a big way. Ramesh Loganathan, President, HYSEA and MD Progress Software made a fervent appeal to all corporates to actively support the cause and the ongoing ‘Car Free Thursdays’ in the respective IT Parks and Companies by implementing simple measures to encourage active and voluntary participation.
Expressing happiness at the lead taken by Hyderabad in introducing this initiative Jayesh Ranjan, Secretary to Govt, ITE&C Department said, “Much ahead of other Indian cities, Hyderabad started car-free day initiative. We now have overwhelming evidence that such an initiative is immensely doable, brings enormous benefits, and, in the end, is a cool and fun thing to be a part of.”
Car Free Thursdays’ success speaks for itself with a 10 per cent reduction of vehicles on roads with 2, 00,000 man hours saved and 273 tonnes of greenhouse gases averted.
