Simple engineers cannot do things, but those with a perspective can sell the impossible dream, said NVS Reddy, MD, Hyderabad Metro Rail.

Addressing the students on the Graduation Day of MuffakhamJah College of Engineering and Technology, he urged the students to have impossible dreams and be prepared for failures.

Sharing the story of Hyderabad Metro Rail, Reddy exclaimed, “Ideas pursued with passion and commitment make the impossible possible.

When we went for PPP, everybody – including my bosses- pounced on us, (in the light of Satyam scam), and Metro seemed an instant failure. There was huge criticism.

But with our persistence and relentless desire to achieve the impossible, HMR is now the world’s biggest PPP project with only 10 per cent of 14,132 crore managed by the concessionaire.”

He adviced young grads to excel beyond their engineering discipline citing instance of the Metro Rail project noting that “only 35 per cent of challenges are engineering challenges and the rest are socio-economic issues like road widening, managing religious structures and vehicular traffic control.”

“In the next couple of years, the choices you make, the companies you keep, the habits you cultivate, the dreams you make are going to make a substantial difference in your life,” he added.
