Advanced technology in cataract surgery now in City

Centre for Sight (CFS) eye hospitals has ushered in a new advanced technology towards correction of cataract and refractive errors.

The procedure, ‘Famtosecond Laser Technique’ was launched by Dr Aashish K Bansal, Medical Director, Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery at CFS, Banjara Hills, recently.

The procedure is short timed and accurate and performed without anesthesia and any complications. This advanced surgery aims to convert the manual, multi-step, multi-tool procedure to one with laser created, computer controlled precision.

Cataract was corrected by the procedure, ‘Phacoemulsification’ stitch less surgery, which was performed using sharp blades.Potential problem of the procedure included injury to surrounding tissue.

To beat out this problem, introduction of Famtosecond Laser technique was developed. Though there is a difference of Rs 30,000 for this advanced surgery, the results have been pleasant so far.

Speaking after the launch Dr Aashish K Bansal said, “As of now only few centres are performing this technique and one amongst them is CFS.

There will further be few more advancements in this technology. We aim at providing the patient a clear vision without the use of spectacles after the surgery.”
