It was a cricket carnival that just about everyone from the players, coaches, umpires and scorers to the Organising Committee members, commentators and guardians enjoyed to the fullest for that perfect run-up to the weekend holiday.

The commencement of the inaugural edition of Samasthi Cubs Cricket League Tournament-2015 began on a spectacular note at the Kollur campus of Samasthi International School in the city outskirts on Gandhi Jayanti.

At the end of the first day what mattered more than the two teams which qualified from Pool ‘A’ and ‘B’ for the semifinal stage was the fact that everyone was a winner in his/her own way.

With under-6 boys and girls taking to the field, it did not bother anyone in particular on whether the proceedings were in true cricketing style.

For as long as the matches were in progress (two were held simultaneously) the ‘dash’ and ‘verve’ of the players was only matched by the smile on the faces of the elders who were cheering for their respective teams.

Each of the team’s six players had to bat and also bowl implying that the all-round abilities of every player were under ‘test’ in the first-of-its-kind tournament in the country.

It is a different thing altogether that some of the players were busy watching their guardians in the make-shift stands while some were oblivious of the movement of the ball.

If anything the biggest high for the batsmen was when they were gifted free-hits following an extra and they could go for a slam-bang variety shot. Not surprisingly, several managed to send the ball to the boundary line if not over them.

For the records the morning session that had Pool ‘A’ contenders vying for a semifinal slot saw the all-round exploits of Mount Litera School, which entered as Jewel Cubs, book a last four berth.

In the noon session, VeeGee Cubs made it to the semifinals after topping Pool ‘B’. Dominating all their outings, Jewel Cubs won three matches in emphatic style.

RDF Cubs representing RDF School logged in four points while Rocks Cubs (Rockwell School) had two points in its kitty. Ganges Cubs from Ganges Valley School failed to open their account.

Results-Pool ‘A’: Jewel Cubs (Mount Litera) bt Ganges Cubs (Ganges Valley School; RDF Cubs (RDF School) bt Rocks Cubs (Rockwell School); Jewel Cubs bt RDF Cubs; Rocks Cubs bt Ganges Cubs; RDF Cubs bt Ganges Cubs; Jewel Cubs bt Rocks Cubs.
