With suicides by farmers in Telangana taking centre stage yet again, Tamkeen, a social enterprise has come up with a unique business model titled ‘Barakah’ for the benefit of the farming community.

The programme is being introduced in two pilot villages in Mahbubnagar district viz., Kodair and Utkoor. While Tamkeen is investing 20 per cent of earned profits in emancipation of rural poor through its Foundation, it is also inviting interested individuals to partner with the foundation to help relieve distressed farmers.

Tamkeen specialises in retailing mutton, chicken (both country and poultry) and fish through its e-commerce platform www.farmsedirect.com.

It is leveraging its market strength to create market linkages for the rural poor while offering them livestock for growing. Tamkeen offers 20 country chicken followed by five female goats/sheep for raising in their backyards.

This livestock is being offered as a gift where beneficiaries will form a self-help group of up to seven families. The livestock that’s grown and ready for the market is purchased at remunerative price and transported to the city for consumption.

People can join hands with us by contributing either livestock viz., female goats/sheep or take a 1/10th share of cost of a female sheep which is Rs 500.
