Fireworks dealers appeal for issue of licences 30 days before Diwali. The Telangana Fireworks Dealers’ Association (TEFDA) has appealed for issue of licences 30 days before Diwali.

The Telangana Fireworks Dealers’ Association (TEFDA) has appealed for issue of licences 30 days before Diwali. Association president J Manik Rao, in a representation to Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy made the appeal on behalf of the association so that the applicants have sufficient time to secure stocks and erect stalls with all safety measures.

Rao stressed that applicants approaching with bigger size outlets, such as ‘kalyana mandapams’ and open grounds, may be considered. “Such outlets”, Rao said, “have advantages like more space for movement, ample parking space and comfortable shopping.” He urged the Minister to permit the retailers to take up sales from October 25 to November 12.

According to Rao, the fireworks industry supports subsidiary industries like paper, printing, chemicals, transport. It creates abundant employment opportunities and promotes education by founding and funding schools and colleges in Sivakasi, which has an exemplary record of literacy and education standards.

Rao informed Reddy that the association on September 12 had organised a one-day fireworks fair for Telangana wholesale fireworks dealers and retailers at Jalvihar, Necklace Road. “It facilitated the retailers to book orders for the Diwali season, as our main motto is to convey the message of ‘say yes to fireworks’ because the trade supports many families across the country, engaged in manufacture, distribution and sale of fireworks,” mentioned the association president.
