How many times have you heard of the statement, “Mera woh matlab nahi tha”? It is a commonly uttered phrase heard in everyday life. The makers of a play by the same title, decided to translate into a live performance, everyday issues that call for the above dialogue.

With director Rakesh Bedi and Bollywood actors including Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta, the play is set to be staged on November 5 at JRC Convention Center. The story is that of a couple whose relationship broke, after which they meet each other only 35 years later.

Set at Lodhi Gardens, Delhi, this is a story of love and heart-break; laughter and grief. It is often said that in a relationship, a couple never really expresses what they really mean. And this is what calls for the statement of explanation, “Mera woh matlab nahi tha.”

In the play, the protagonists’ lives seem to have several layers, even as each day unveils new emotions. Anupam Kher brings to the character, the charm that is so oft associated with him. As Priyatam in the play, Anupam Kher adds an element of humour by turning every gloomy moment into a light-hearted one. Neena Gupta as Hema portrays a witty and romantic role. The play is being organised by Yosha Deedithi Foundation, a not-for-profit.
