It will be a battle among equals when the bottom placed Hyderabad hosts Jammu and Kashmir in their Group ‘C’ fifth round of the Ranji Trophy at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (RGICS) in the city on Friday.

With four points from as many matches, the visiting team enjoys a one point lead over the host, which is coming fresh from a humiliating away outing against Saurashtra.

The team from the valley did well to forge a draw against Tripura in Agartala after being subject to a brutal nine-wicket loss by Services earlier.

Whether taken under current form and their performances in the first four matches of the season, each will be aiming for a comprehensive win in order to boost their points.

The plight of Hyderabad is that despite the effectiveness of Mehdi Hasan and the batting prowess of Akshat Reddy, skipper GH Vihari and Tanmay Agarwal, there is none who could be depended upon.

For Jammu and Kashmir, in addition to seasoned campaigner and captain Mithun MInhas, the revelation has been the form of off-spinner Parvez Rasool, whose batting has come as a welcome revelation to the team.

But Vihari remains hopeful of bringing in a turnaround on a turf that the curator Chandrashekar has said would be a green top.

“We are not in a great position but we have not given up. We will try to win the next four matches,” he said. It was ditto with Minhas who said they would go all out for big ones in their remaining matches.

On the Rajkot debacle, Vihari said “we have to blame ourselves for that particular match as we dropped too many catches. We are at the bottom of the table and have to come up” said the captain, who is betting big on Tanmay.
