The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) commissioned the Solar Power System on Monday, which was inaugurated by Principal Director Jojeneshwar Sharma.

Speaking at the launch, Jojeneshwar Sharma said, “SCB has taken up the initative two years ago and it was on war footing to take up the pilot project of Solar Power and commissioned successfully. This will help the SCB save the power bills in a big way.

“The success of the project is an inspiration to other cantonments to follow and we will encourage these initiatives and it as eye opener to the other cantonments in India,” he added.

The solar power plant at Karkhana and Balam Rai and seven other pump houses are in the process of commissioning at project cost of over Rs 7 crore, for which 20 per cent subsidy was released by the centre.

Chief Executive Officer of SCB Sujatha Gupta, said, “We have commissioned 140 k watts at Balamrai and 80 k watts at Karkhana. The SCB has large dues of over Rs 26 crore towards drinking water charges to HMW&SB, including the arrears and compound interest charges. This plant will reduce the whopping power bills of the SCB.”
