If the new Commissioner of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Dr B Janardhan Reddy goes about implementing his blueprint in letter and spirit and the staff toes the line, the entire jurisdiction under the civic body will shortly boast of the best of sports infrastructural facilities.

This follows a threadbare discussion during a review meeting he had with officials of the body’s sports wing on Sunday. The meeting was aimed at taking stock of the existing situation and evolving policies that could ensure overall development of sports activities and facilities at the Corporation’s sports complexes that dot the twin cities.

In accordance with the decisions, the availability of grounds and stadiums have been duly revised and enhanced both for the morning and evening sessions. Accordingly, they will be open from 5.30 am to 11am and from 3pm to 11pm. After they are used by the regulars, the available times could be allotted to educational institutions and corporate houses against payment of the prescribed user charges.

In another significant move, they have decided to put in place children play apparatus in all their playgrounds and colonies. Whilst the GHMC will pitch in with 75 per cent of the expenditure that entails installation of the apparatus, local Resident Welfare Associations have to contribute 25 per cent of the actual costs to ensure their steady maintenance.
