Dreaming of one’s wedding day is not uncommon; and choosing the best designs then, becomes a top priority for this special day
Making a decision such as choosing a life partner is a big one, and it only seems justified to also make the wedding ceremony a memorable one! Weddings are thus performed with much elan, complete with customs and rituals to mark the day. Dressing for the D-Day is an exciting part of all the wedding planning. Here’s a guide to help you with the best designs.
Picture the bride in a long red ghagra or a pastel coloured Lehenga drawing all the necessary attention on her big day. A saree accessorised with a ruby necklace and long ruby earrings is another great option that might make the bright coloured saree with zardosi work on the pallu and borders stand out. A combination of gold bangles and heavy gold jewellery would further the traditional look.
Mebaz is one store to look for appropriate traditional wear for the occasion. Mebaz launched its latest designer bridal collection, which has a lot of bright as well as light pastel colours with stylish embroidery and fabrics. The clothing line has embellished work including heavy zardosi, net, hand and machine embroidery on churidars, lehengas, ghaghra choli, anarkali, gown and sarees. Amazing jewellery appropriate for women as well as sherwani suits for men is also a part of the range available.
Fashion designer Pratima Pandey, who showcased her bridal collection at the recently concluded Amazon India Fashion Week 2015, shares the latest trends according to her. She says, “Bridal wear for this season is simple and modish with less work that makes the outfit look comfortable and graceful at the same time.” The theme she showcased at the Fashion Week was called ‘Melody Affair’, referring to her summer wedding collection. She used pastel colours, floral prints and embroidery on lehengas and dupattas in the collection.
Handloom fabric with little embroidery or even an Indo-Western style is also ‘in’. Fashion designer Ishita Singh says, “Everyone would love to look their elegant best and enjoy their wedding by trying a new look. A crop embroidery top with a simple long designer pastel coloured lehenga would look good.”
At a time when no one wishes to wear repeated designs, it’s helpful to keep in mind that one can even design their own clothes. A bridal collection doesn’t always have to be ready-made. Sometimes one’s own ideas could look more creative and fashionable. Materials can be purchased by taan, in all kinds of materials, whether georgette, netted or chiffon fabrics that could be stitched into lehengas or ghagras on which the karigars can work on a particular design like birds, flowers or any other creative themes and patterns.
As an overview, for lehenga and ghagra, one would need three-and-a-half meters or more of cloth, depending on the body type and choice of flow. For blouses or tops, one meter or more is the general requirement. Dupattas can be grandly decorated with a lot of zardosi work. By designing one’s own wedding outfit, the amount spent would end up being reasonable and the result will be an exclusive pattern designed by none other than the bride.
