‘Convergence’, the anniversary festival of Our Sacred Space, Secunderabad had a Kuchipudi dance recital by Amy Kumar, a student of Anupama Kylash recently.

She started with an invocation to Lord Ganesha in Desh Raag. "Sri Ramachandra Kripalu" by Tulsidas is a Sanskrit prayer glorifying Lord Rama, desiring him to remain in the poet's heart. Amy depicted the beautiful description of Lord Rama with grace.

"Swagatam Krishna", describing various aspects of Lord Krishna - from his flute playing and Ras Leela culminates in his slaying of the wrestlers at Kamsa's court, was in Raag Mohana. The brisk and fast-paced tune of the song was equalled by the vibrancy of the performance. Part of the tarangam "Marakatamanimaya" composed by Oothukadu Venkata Subbaiyer featured the characteristic movements of the dancer on the rim of a brass plate, a highlight of the Kuchipudi style.

The balance and poise of the young dancer was well-appreciated. The Annamacharya Keertana "Srimannarayana" showing Lord Venkateswara as the supreme deity, residing in the lotus with Lakshmi as his consort and an eagle as his vehicle concluded the recital, which was done to music that was recorded.
