SKILLS 2015 to be a platform for Clean India

The Organising committee of Life skills and Livelihood skills International conference series announced that the two-day SKILLS 2015 International conference will be held in Hyderabad from Thursday. The theme for the current year is ‘Life skills and Livelihood Skills-for achieving and sustaining a clean India’.

The conference is organised to provide impetus to the ongoing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India) campaign in realising its objectives. The conference coincides with the World Toilet Day on November 19.

“The objective of SKILLS 2015 conference is to ensure that the skills, technologies, approach and best practices necessary to achieve and sustain the Clean India campaign are understood and adopted throughout India. Skilling communities, village officials and children are the key to the sustainability of sanitary practices. Further, we are committed to both developing best practices throughout operating pilot programmes and advocating for the adoption of those practices at SKILLS 2015 and beyond,” said Dr Ravi Reddy, co-chairman of the conference.

Dr Richard Oliver, Founder and CEO, American Sentinel University said, “SKILLS 2015 is the third in a series of Life Skills and Livelihood Skills International conferences aimed at developing at the skill levels and therefore sustainable economies and general quality of life, of rural India.”

Earlier conferences in 2010 and 2013 were focused on the challenges for industrial development and for International cooperation, respectively.

“Cultural practices in India should be changed. Many people asked me why I am interested in educating the Indians. I have three reasons for that; my heart, head and soul,” added Dr Richard.

“Lately, I realised that the world can be a better place if we educate people about sanitation, cleanliness and health. I wish the 21st century belongs to India in which people maintain cleanliness,” he concluded.

Through the conference both awareness and implementation of cleanliness is covered. Training and educating children on sanitation and understating about the change agents are the two areas of concentration.

SKILLS 2015 will serve as a platform for a dialogue for Clean India and will bring together policy makers, government officials, educators, business executives and training professionals from around the world to exchange ideas and promote initiatives on sanitation.
