The three-day annual ‘Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist’ (STAR) programme was jointly conducted by the IEEE Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology (IEEE SNIST) and the ‘Women In Engineering’ (WIE) Affinity Group at Rampally Zilla Parishad High School recently.
Volunteers from the college participated in the mentoring programme that aims at encouraging students, specifically girls, about pursuing a career in Engineering and making them aware of other issues like communication skills, career building, health and safety.
The first day involved awareness on present day technologies and introduction to Engineering Sciences, Computers and Electronics. Students were enlightened about different fields of Engineering. In addition, students interested in the Life sciences and biology were explained about the importance of medicine, pharmacy and their role as doctors, researchers and engineers.
The second day was aimed at career building, communications skills and time management. This session dealt with different prospects of study after high school. Time management was the main focus and the students were motivated to follow a time-table and maintain constant balance between sports, games and studies.
On the final day kids were taken for a field Trip to the SNIST where they were exposed to activities in the laboratories of Engineering.
The STAR programme was concerned with mentoring for the Government school students to continue their learning and pursue a career in Engineering.
Executive Director of IEEE SNIST Student Branch, Dr P Narasimha Reddy, Principal and IEEE SNIST Student Branch Counsellor Dr K Sumanth and Gazetted Head Master, Rampally ZPHS Venu Duggaraju was present for the event.
