A theatre festival is just what the city is sure to enjoy as the year comes to an end. Four plays by the renowned playwright Girish Karnad will be staged at ‘Natotsav’ theatre festival

Celebrating its 20th year, Nishumbita Ballet and Theatre Group announced details of its upcoming ‘Natotsav’ theatre festival on Thursday. Driven with a passion for the art form, the team is all set to feature works by playwright, screenwriter and director Girish Karnad. Welcoming Natotsav, which is going to be an annual festival, present at the event were – Mamidi Harikrishna, director, Telangana Department of Language and Culture, and Amala Akkineni, representing AISFM as the media partner.

It was announced that four plays by the renowned playwright will be staged on two days, December 12 and 13, at Ravindra Bharati. The four plays that one can look forward to are – ‘Agni Varsham’, ‘Nagamandala’, ‘Broken Images’ and ‘Pushp’. The team of 60 actors has been practicing for many months under the guidance of Nishumbita director Dr Rammohan Holagundi.

‘Agni Varsham’ is a 1 hour 40 minute play done in a narrative style, with its plot taken from the Mahabharata but in a contemporary setting. This play rendered by the team, has also been selected for the National School of Drama. ‘Pushp’ is a monologue that shows the connectivity between God and humans. It is a story of passionate love and commitment, come what may. Vinay Verma from Sutradhar will be playing the role of the priest in ‘Pushp’, and he is also credited with its translation.
