Hyderabad hosted the biggest and first “paper-free” three-day Indian Prosthodontic Society Conference with about 2,600 delegates, along with 27 international speakers.

The 43rd Conference hosted by the Indian Prosthodontic Society Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chapters was formally inaugurated by G Satish Reddy, Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantra, in Hyderabad on Friday.

Scientific deliberations encompassed recent advances in the field, dental implantology, importance of research and digital dentistry across topics like new trends in CAD CAM—a new dimension in dental laboratories; fundamentals of communication and internal quality check for dental laboratories; Digital Labs; tailor fit dentistry trends; glass fibers in everyday dentistry and implant over dentures.

Most dental material and equipment are imported and taxing on such imports escalates the costs further. The Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS) laid emphasis to promote community outreach programmes and give impetus to its existing initiative of providing free dentures to the needy and poor through the various IPS local or state bodies.

The Society will seek the help of the Government to make these programmes more effective. Speaking on the occasion G Satish Reddy said that according to the data available 33 per cent of Indian population has teeth related problems. The demand for dental equipment is growing by 25 per cent year on year in India.

“Digital revolution has definitely changed the treatment rendered to patients and we are investing into futuristic materials in a big way. IPS should gear up to manufacture most things in India in line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative,” he said.

Dr Satish Babu C L, President, Indian Prosthodontic Society said, “IPS will be screening short movies to raise awareness about Prosthodontics. For all of us bringing a smile on the face of the patient is the biggest fulfillment.”
