The election was held amidst 2,500 delegates, who came from across India and abroad on the concluding day of the 50th Indian Orthodontic Conference at HICC recently.

 Dr G Chandra SekharCity Orthodontist Dr G Chandra Sekhar was elected as the national President of Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) for 2017. Simultaneously, orthodontist from Vizag, Dr Gangadhara Prasad K took over the role for 2016.

The election was held amidst 2,500 delegates, who came from across India and abroad on the concluding day of the 50th Indian Orthodontic Conference at HICC recently.

Dr G Chandra Sekhar is working as Professor Orthodontics at Panineeya Institute of Dental Science and Hospital and Dr Gangadhara Prasad works with Gitam. Both of them have about 30 years of experience.

Speaking after his appointment, Dr Gangadhara Prasad K said, “The Government should regulate the profession as more and more unqualified dentists are practicing as Orthodontists. In addition, they must also offer subsidy to the poor, who need Cleft Lip Palate treatment.”

Cleft Lip Palate deformity is one of the most common deformities among Indian children. "There are millions who need help, but cannot access care," said Dr G Chandra Sekhar. Both newly elected leaders urged the State governments to set up Cleft Lip Palate Centres and promote the same.
