Ringing in the kacheri culture that is immensely patronised in Chennai into Hyderabad is the avowed mission of the city-based KMR Foundation, which has been set up by the family members of Katikaneni Mahipathi Rao to perpetuate his artistic legacy.
In tune with this ambitious journey, the Foundation is organising a two-day Jashn-E-Deccan that will feature performances by celebrated classical music exponents. The most tempting factor is that the festivities will come free of cost.
According to Mahi siblings, Jawahar and Humera, mellifluous music will rent the air amid a serene picturesque locale at Sreenidhi International School Amphitheatre in Aziznagar on December 19 and 20.
A touch of nostalgia that will soothe the minds of the elders and every music connoisseur will be a live rendition, a virtuoso performance by Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan, the universally revered 107-year-old, who will perform soon after inaugurating the rare assemblage of a multitude of artistes.
Humera Mahi said that they had brought in established performers like Pushkar Lele, Anupama Bhagwat, Amiya Ranjan Banerjee, Pelva Naik, Biswajit Roy Chowdhury and Vidushi Malini Rajurkar with the singular intention of giving fillip to classical music. The Foundation hopes to make the festival an annual feature.
In order to attract a bigger crowd and also facilitate the travel needs of music lovers, the organisers have arranged pick up and drop facilities on both days at five select spots.
