Warangal: Kakatiya University Part-time Lecturers Association (KUPLA) leaders called for a ‘university bandh’ from Dec 16 onwards in support of their various demands.

Association president J Tirupathi Raj and general secretary P Prabhakar, in a statement, here on Tuesday, opposed the decision of KU Engineering College authorities to conduct interviews on Wednesday to appoint contract lecturers.

The college authorities exploited several part-time lecturers who were working in the college for the past two years without receiving any remuneration.
Now the officials planned to recruit new part-time lecturers affecting their future, they alleged.

Similarly, the university officials have also been neglecting the demand of increasing remuneration of part-time lecturers from Rs 325 to Rs 525 per period.
The officials failed to heed several representations made and agitations staged in this connection and hence the bandh was called, they added.

The bandh would be observed till the demands were fulfilled, KUPLA leaders asserted.
