The activists of Civil Liberties Committee (CLC) on Wednesday submitted a representation to the District Superintendent of Police, D Joel Davis, requesting him to conduct a comprehensive probe into the murder of a four- month pregnant woman, Surjo Bagh, who was allegedly beaten to death by the owner of HBT brick kiln industry near Peddapally recently.

Karimnagar: The activists of Civil Liberties Committee (CLC) on Wednesday submitted a representation to the District Superintendent of Police, D Joel Davis, requesting him to conduct a comprehensive probe into the murder of a four- month pregnant woman, Surjo Bagh, who was allegedly beaten to death by the owner of HBT brick kiln industry near Peddapally recently.
The CLC team, led by its state president Gaddam Laxman, met the SP and requested him to convert Surjo Bagh case into section 302 of IPC instead of section 304/2 registered by Peddapally police.
The CLC members submitted a representation to Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy on Tuesday and brought Surjo Bagh murder to his notice. It was learnt that the Minister spoke with the SP over phone and enquired about the incident. Based on the Home Minister’s instructions, the CLC activists met the SP here on Wednesday.
They asked the SP to order an enquiry into the death of five persons, who died under suspicious circumstances during the last six months in different brick kiln units in Peddapalli area. The SP was also asked to take steps to control the harassment of labourers by the owners of brick kilns in the district.
Civil Liberties state president Laxman demanded the State government a probe into Surjo Bagh’s murder case with a sitting High Court judge and provide Rs 25 lakh exgratia to the family member of the deceased.
According to sources, the SP told the CLC team a team would be deployed to monitor any violation of Human Rights and Labour Acts in brick kiln units.
