Congress tells EC to ensure free and fair council polls

Khammam: Congress Deputy Floor Leader in Legislative Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy said that the allegations against AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi were deliberately orchestrated by the Narendra Modi-led NDA government.

He was referring to the trial court’s summons to Sonia and Rahul in the National Herald case. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said that the Congress will never yield to the pressure exerted by the BJP and has strength and substance to come out clean in the fabricated case.

“The Congress cadres to demonstrate their protest against the Centre on December 19, the day our leaders appear before the Patiala court in person,” Reddy said.

Training guns against the TRS government, he criticised Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for resorting to money bag politics, instead of addressing the problems faced by the people, especially farmers.
Though some mandals in Khammam district were drought-affected, they were not considered by the State government, he alleged, demanding announcement of drought-affected mandals with immediate effect.
Referring to the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) project plans in Hyderabad announced by the Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai, Reddy welcomed the decision on behalf of the Congress.
Meanwhile, Reddy said that he had lodged a written complaint with the Election Commission (EC) to ensure free and fair Council elections for six seats from the local bodies’ constituencies in the State. In his letter, he said that the TRS was trying to influence the voters (local body representatives) with packages besides encouraging defections from other party members. He also urged the EC to take stringent measures to keep a tab on ruling party leaders’ activities.
