Karimnagar: Stating that wearing handloom clothes is healthy for the body, Finance and Civil Supplies Minister Eatala Rajenedr appealed the people to protect the lives of handloom workers by wearing handmade cloths. The Minister inaugurated Handloom Expo-2015 at Junior (Arts) College grounds here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajender said Sircilla is famous for handloom products. Sircilla weaver Parandhamulu got international recognition for weaving the smallest sari that could fix in a matchbox.

In order to protect the interests of the handloom workers, the State government has introduced various welfare schemes and trying hard to implement them, he said.
District Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad said that handloom clothes manufactured in the State and other states as well would be available in the expo, which would be continued up to December 31.
She lauded the quality of the bed sheets made by Aadarsh Handloom Society no. 2 and informed that the district administration has decided to purchase 10,000 bed sheets to supply to the students of residential hostels.
