800 students participate in ‘Digital Disruption’, a day-long event organised by Persistent Systems and KMIT

Persistent Systems, along with Keshav Memorial Institute of Technology (KMIT), organised ‘Digital Disruption’, at KMIT College in the city, recently. Presided by Jayesh Ranjan, IT Secretary of Govt of Telangana, the event saw attendance from over 800 engineering and IT students across 40 colleges in and around the city.

The event was centred on themes such as Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Hadoop, Salesforce, and Enterprise Digital Transformation (EDT). It focused on skill development and making students industry-ready, by reducing the gap between academics and on-the-job requirements. It also saw participation from Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK).

“The IT industry is seeing unprecedented change and creating disruption in every respect. Formal academic curricula don’t always address this degree of change, and we’re seeing a resultant skill gap in the ability of students to adapt and respond to the current business environment. It is to address this gap that Persistent Systems, along with KMIT, put up this day-long Digital Disruption. The response we’ve received from the students has been overwhelming, and we’re thankful to our partners and to Jayesh Ranjan for making this possible” said Sameer Bendre, chief people officer, Persistent Systems.

Commenting on the event, Jayesh Ranjan said, “In today’s rapidly changing landscape, students need to possess skills that make them employable combined with an attitude of self-learning and enterprise. There are several product companies that have made their presence felt in recent years. As students, you have tremendous ideas that have the potential to transform into great products. I would encourage you to ingrain a culture of enterprise and emerge as job givers rather than job seekers.”

Sujiv Nair, chief executive, department of Information Technology, Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge(TASK), said, “ Digital Disruption is forcing change and therein also shrinking the life of technologies at a rapid pace. This affects influence and decision-making, which, in turn, affects the entire customer journey and ultimately the customer lifecycle. Consistent and personalized delivery 24 X 7 will become the new game changer and an opportunity for businesses. Hence it is imperative to focus on customer-centricity.”
