Hyderabad: Telangana State government has geared up for the speedy completion of irrigation projects. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday directed the officials to take up works of the irrigation projects on Godavari river from January.

Reviewing the progress of works with the officials here, he asked the officials to submit proposals for new reservoirs, barrages, canals and pipelines before the end of this month.

Stating that the government’s objective was to “minimise submergence and maximise utilisation of water from the projects,” the Chief Minister said. The works on Tammidihatti in Adilabad and Kaleswaram projects in Karimnagar district should be executive simultaneously and complete before the beginning of monsoon season next year.

KCR also spoke to his Maharastra Counterpart Devendra Fadnavis on phone and explained the latter the utilisation of water from the two projects.

The two Chief Ministers discussed the utilisation of 1,690 tmcft of water and submergence of the areas in Maharastra under Tammidihatti and Kaleswaram projects. KCR assured Fadnavis that a delegation led by Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao would meet their counterparts and dispel all doubts raised on the projects.

The officials told the CM that reengineering and redesigning of the existing major and medium irrigation projects initiated by the government had almost reached final stage. The objective of the redesigning of the projects was to bring the parched lands under irrigation.
